The Big Brown Bear - Creative Inner Child

When I was a child, my mother would tuck us into bed and whisper goodnight. She would leave our rooms and pretend to walk down the hall. After a minute, she would creep back in announcing the big brown bear will tickle you!!!

Objective

This week in DEST400, I have been asked to repurpose items and create a design to draw out my inner child. I immediately wanted to draw an illustration of the big brown bear - my mum.

Outcome

What did I draw? A Mumma Bear clutching a piece of her child's art, while the baby bear uses her father's Sunday paper as a monocular. The wild garden, around the imaginative sea, was my mother's garden on the farm - full of trees, flowers, fruit and frog ponds.

Sketching in Procreate for the first time, I wanted soft lines and warm fuzziness - hence the red colour line drawing taught by Paypah Art. There has been lots of youtube watching this week.

The umbrella was an item of pride for my mum. It would come out and protect her flowers or vegetables in hot summers. She would always be toiling the soil with her shovel. While the sail is this huge beach towel, with a ghastly print, which I still think she may own.

Feelings of Inner Child

I am 41, but this picture conjures the same senses and emotions as the 'big brown bear' did when I was 4 - a fondness of past innocence. My mum, watching over me, creating memories in her giant garden with her beloved umbrella and garden tools.
